Overview

PURPOSE

 

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.  All duties are performed in a safe manner; plant, state and federal safety rules are followed.  Work as part of a team to ensure the continuous operation of the plant and associated facilities in order to maximize operational efficiency in an environment of continuous training and improvement. The primary objective of this position is to rotate area(s) of responsibility to ensure all field equipment is operating properly; resolve and prevent field problems; perform diagnostic/proactive inspections and repairs; meet customer and plant requirements by unloading and loading of raw materials and finished product both by bulk and truck loading according to plan, as necessary to minimize downtime, optimize equipment operations to ensure successful operation of the plant.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all job functions in a safe manner complying with Plant, Company, State, Federal and MSHA regulations and guidelines
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections and repair on all equipment to facilitate continuous operations including cutting and welding as required
  • Store, stock, transport, ship and handle all material as required
  • Maintain plant clean up for kilns, raw mills and finish mills
  • Responsible for clinker, cement and raw material transfers on shift.
  • Write and contribute to daily reports and other routine reports about special projects or incidents.
  • Ensure 1st level inspections are performed daily and take appropriate action as directed.
  • Safely operate mobile equipment and any other equipment in support of the overall plant needs.
  • Perform inventory measurements and reporting as required
  • Inspect for Safety & Health violations and initiate/request corrective action to meet Federal and State regulations
  • Operate cement loading, shipping, reclaim, barge, rail and transfer equipment.
  • Ensures that the proper type of cement is loaded into barges and trucks.
  • Follow established quality control guidelines and procedures including but not limited to silo changes, raw material handling, and mill checks
  • Hatching and un-hatching mills, cleaning chutes, and working in confined spaces (mills, separators etc.) and working at heights
  • Move raw materials by loader, truck, dozer, overhead crane, and/or other mobile equipment, as needed
  • Maintain and improve knowledge of operating characteristics of plant equipment and process flows

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs & ladders; reach with hands and arms, work in awkward situations; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Work at Heights and using appropriate safety gear is expected.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

 

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

Production Assistants and Production employees with lead hand responsibilities report to the Control Room Supervisors.  The CRS reports to the Production Coordinator who report to the Production Manager.  The Production Manager reports to the Plant Manager.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Required Education:  High School diploma/GED

Additional Education Preferred: Associates/Technical Degree     

Required Work Experience:   Minimum 1 year in cement manufacturing experience or comparable heavy industry experience

Required Computer and Software Skills: Intermediate computer skills
