Overview

PURPOSE

Its main purpose: Ensure high quality raw material feed for plant while optimizing the remaining reserves and minimizing costs. Mine planning, manage process to ensure chemistries remain in specification with minimum variation, lead non-processing engineering projects, tight integration with quality process & shipping, manage blasting related costs and issues

 

The contribution it makes: Maintains high customer satisfaction at minimum cost. Leads planning efforts for mining, ensures plan is executed and targets are reached for production volumes, quality requirements, and costs.

 

Its long term goals: Create institutional knowledge of quarry optimization. Educate plant and divisional personnel on the key aspects of the mining plan; create systems to support daily execution of the plan independent of this role’s participation.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Drive process to ensure quality is maintained and variability is reduced
  • Optimize the use of high-quality reserves at a minimum of costs
  • Coordinate mining and shipments to ensure adequate inventories
  • Educate the plant and division with regards to chemistry and quality
  • Lead non-processing engineering projects
  • Ensure quality products for our customers
  • Optimize the life of the reserve, particularly the high quality reserves, as well as managing the core drilling plan and QMS block model with assistance from the land group
  • Reduce quarry costs and assist in plant reduction costs including quarry reclamation plan, quarry road system, drainage plan
  • Maintain quality records regarding the deposit and our mining efforts
  • Mining plan executed in accordance with forecasted demand, cost objectives and chemical requirements
  • Manage and budget all explosives spend for operation (production & stripping)
  • Create & execute cost improvement plans for non-processing aspects of operation
  • Accurate & timely creation of all mining records for government/royalty purposes
  • Quantified reduction in chemical variability of product
  • Develop understanding of process from mine planning to shipping & scheduling
  • Effectively deal with the community with regards to blasting, zoning and water-related issues
  • Be our representative to the public with regards to zoning, blasting, and water issues

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

Work with Regional mine planning/geology team to update QMS life of mine plan. Develop close ties with MPS (Materials Performance Supervisor) and sales group with regards to products and shipping schedules

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required Education:  Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree

Field of Study Preferred:  Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or technical qualifications through previous work preferred   

Required Work Experience:   Minimum of 3 years work experience preferred

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of project management procedures, cost control, and scheduling.
  • Proven communication skills (written & oral). 
  • Ability to work on many tasks at the same time while keeping excellent organizational skills. 
  • Good leadership ability and interpersonal skills. 
  • Knowledge of the cement technology and manufacturing is an asset.
