Overview

PURPOSE

The Finish and Shipping  Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Finish Mill operations, Bulk Loading and Barge Loading areas of the plant including the planning and assigning of work to his crew. Other responsibilities include facilitating use of the PCS as a resource for Process, Maintenance, Production, Shipping, Environmental and Quality Departments.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures a safe work environment that meets MSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Follows quality protocols and documents and generates SOP's, JSA's and training plans.
  • Assesses training needs of production hourly employees and initiates the appropriate training.
  • Responsible for shipments of cement, bulk and package as dictated by sales.
  • Resolves daily issues relating to cement production and works with other Departments to resolves issues which can impact shipments or product quality
  • Directly supervises hourly production employees and coordinates w Production Coordinator PCS activities.
  • Monitors and reports cement bulk and package inventories, sales volumes, and package production.
  • Plans packing activities and provides input to cement grinding plan to meet sales demand.
  • Interfaces with Sales, Marketing and Distribution on shipping issues.
  • Meets budgeted fixed costs and assists in development of yearly budget.
  • Orders and maintains proper inventories of consumable items used.
  • Coordinates with Production Coordinator the work scheduling of hourly employees.
  • Ensures timely call-outs of maintenance personnel. Generates work order requests and participates in weekly maintenance planning meetings. Troubleshoots equipment outages and interfaces with plant technical support groups.
  • Support installation and training of employees on new plant equipment into operation.
  • Use of the PCS to provide information for management or other reporting functions (high degree of involvement with environmental reporting and permit compliance)
  • Administration of the Collective Agreement.
  • Provides relief for the Production Coordinator as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Finish and Shipping Manager
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with multiple priorities.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

  • Works closely with the Process Engineers and control room operators to identify trends, patterns, biases, and other indicators that validate the correct operation of all finish grinding.
  • Will routinely work with Production Coordinator supervise the PCS’s and set production priorities.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance coordinator in scheduling of equipment stoppages for shutdowns and repairs.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required Education:  High school diploma required. Associates or Bachelors Degree desirable

Additional Education Preferred: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree

Field of Study Preferred: Engineering

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years heavy industry.

Travel Requirements:  5%

Required Computer and Software Skills: Fluent in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, MS, etc)

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of SAP a plus

  • Experience on the tools and supervisory role
  • Ability to multi-task and make timey critical decisions
  • Knowledge of industrial safety techniques and practices
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud noise, etc.
  • Experience working in cement, mining, steel or similar industries is desirable
