To effectively manage the maintenance activities in Raw Grind/Quarry, to help create and administer area budget, to assist with planning and inspecting, and to supervise all Mechanical Maintenance within the area of responsibility to ensure their safety and productivity.



  • Leads safety initiatives and actively looks for ways to improve both personal and plant safety. This includes but is not limited to, lead safety toolbox every morning, lead monthly safety meetings and follow up on action items, regular safety audits on the job, procurement of safety tools and gear, and fostering a culture of safety within the team.
  • Helps develop and administer the area budget, as well as assists in the planning and inspection pillars on a daily basis.
  • Supervises the execution of maintenance work in area of responsibility, as well as periodic supervision of capital jobs where he/she serves as
  • Solicits outside contractors for emergency labor, serves as LCC, and approves all timesheets for work performed.
  • Organizes crews, both plant and contract, and executes yearly shutdown plan during winter turnaround. Responsible for timely completion of work orders, failure reporting, and follow up jobs for work completed.
  • Inspects, plans, and executes all jobs requiring completion within 2 days. This includes determining scope of work, buying parts, negotiating downtime, and organizing a crew to execute the job.
  • Responsible for being “on call” on a rotation basis with other salaried team members to provide plant-wide maintenance coverage for emergencies arising during off-hours and weekends.
  • Audits the time sheets, manages vacation schedules, maintains vacation records, schedules overtime and does performance appraisals for the area maintenance team.
  • Organize required technical and safety training needs for team members through the maintenance coordinator.


  • Assist in the preparation and administration of annual maintenance budget for the respective area of responsibility.
  • Reliability of mechanical equipment to meet plant goals.
  • Daily safety audits, monthly plant safety meetings, and follow-up for all safety related deficiencies.
  • Monthly safety inspections of areas outside direct responsibility.
  • Influencing individuals and/or groups towards desired behaviors and results by applying suitable leadership styles and interpersonal skills.
  • Direction and supervision of all maintenance activities in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Assist coordinator in negotiation of equipment downtime with production to maintain a high level of productivity while still performing preventive maintenance within a reasonable schedule.
  • Uphold high quality environmental standards established by the agreement between LafargeHolcim, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Requisitioning of non-stock spare parts.
  • Ensures that the plant and department safety goals are met, conducts the monthly safety meetings, is a member of a cross functional team, and chairs the Maintenance Management Team on a rotation basis.
  • Initiates and coordinates employee training and evaluates their skills, abilities, and safety practices and behaviour.
  • Nurtures employee relations in a non-union, team concept environment, delegate’s authority to instil self-confidence in the work force, and solicits employee feedback relating to the improvement of the maintenance process, quality of work life, and overall plant performance.
  • Establishes high maintenance standards throughout the plant, with particular emphasis placed on preventive maintenance program.
  • Assists planner in coordination of spare parts for job requests in conjunction with stores and purchasing, arranges for any mobile equipment and special tools for the jobs, and coordinates the fabrication and rebuilding of parts from outside vendors for emergency work.
  • Promotes the use of the latest equipment and products on the market to keep abreast of new technology.


This position will interact with all Maintenance personnel as well as other plant management personal to ensure a safe and productive work environment.



Required Education:  Associates Degree with at least 5 years experience OR High School Diploma /GED with at least 7 years experience.

Additional Education Preferred: Bachelor's/University Degree

Preferred field of study:  Mechanical Maintenance; Engineering, Operations        

Required Work Experience:  5-7 years within a maintenance role with progressive leadership roles

Travel Requirements:  Minimal Travel Required

Computer and Software Skills:   Microsoft Skills Required. SAP Skills Preferable
